Semester 1 Academic Reports

We are committed to keeping you informed about your child's academic progress. As part of this commitment, we provide two formal academic reports each year:

  • Semester 1 Report: distributed towards the end of Term 2, this report details your child's achievements, areas of strength and areas for further development.
  • Semester 2 Report: issued towards the end of Term 4, this report provides a comprehensive overview of your child's progress throughout the second semester.

In addition to these reports, we also hold Parent-Teacher Interviews twice a year, during Terms 1 and 3. These interviews offer a valuable opportunity to discuss your child's learning journey in more detail. At anytime, parents can request additional meetings to discuss their child's progress at school.

How will you receive your child’s report?

Reports have been distributed via School Bytes, today, Friday 27 June. If you have not recieved your child's report please check the 'Resources' tab in your School Bytes portal.

You should always be able to access your child's acedemic report, or view past reports, via the School Bytes Parent App.

  1. Log in to the School Bytes Parent App
  2. Click on Resources
  3. Reports will be sitting under ‘Students documents’, Academic Report.

Kindergarten 2026 - Get Ready!

As we prepare for our Kindergarten 2026 intake, it's essential to highlight the incredible impact of transition on a child's development. Research shows that the experiences children have in their early years set the foundation for their future educational journey. At Floraville Public School, we are committed to fostering a nurturing and stimulating environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning.

Why enrol early?

Enrolling your child early not only secures their spot in our Kindergarten program but also allows us to better prepare our orientation and transition activities to meet the unique needs of our newest learners. The sooner we can get to know our new students and their families, the better prepared we will be to support their individual learning journeys.

Community connections matter

We believe that a strong school community is built on connections. As we approach our Kindergarten information evening, we encourage existing families to share their experiences with prospective families. Your stories and insights can make a significant difference in helping new families feel welcome and informed. Our team have already commenced getting out and about into local preschools to engage in starting schools discussions.

Upcoming events

Stay tuned for exciting events leading up to the new school year. We will host interactive sessions for both parents and children to explore our school, meet our dedicated staff, and learn about the engaging curriculum we offer. These events are a wonderful opportunity to build friendships and foster a sense of belonging within our school community.

  • Year 3 and Year 4 - to wear GREEN
  • Year 5 - to wear ORANGE

Celebrating Success – Koa 2/3K

We are thrilled to celebrate the success of Koa from 2/3K.  Koa has been demonstrating our school value of persistence in her mathematics lessons, particularly in her understanding and application of inverse operations.

Inverse operations are mathematical processes that undo each other. For example, addition and subtraction are inverse operations because they reverse each other’s effects. Similarly, multiplication and division are inverse operations. Understanding these concepts is crucial as it helps students solve equations and check their work by ensuring that calculations are accurate.

Koa’s commitment to mastering this area of mathematics has set a fantastic example for her peers and has significantly contributed to her overall academic growth.

Congratulations Koa on your application and persistence.

Art Gallery

Our fabulous art gallery has officially been installed in the office foyer, and it's bursting with creativity! Featuring stunning new frames, we’re showcasing the incredible talents of our students and their amazing artworks developed during extension art lessons.

Dive into a world of imagination with Ken Done inspired masterpieces, explore enchanting Under the Sea scenes, marvel at mesmerising Light and Shadow works, enjoy striking Warm and Cool Colour Silhouettes, and take in the breathtaking depictions of the Snowy Mountains.

So, next time you’re in the front office, be sure to take a moment to check it out—it's a real "frame" changer!

Star Struck

We had a wonderful time at Star Struck this year. It was the first time that all four shows were sold out. Thank you for all of the support from parents who were organising carpools and taking their child, sometimes as well as others, to and from rehearsals, particularly during show week. We can not do this without your support.

The students involved represented our school, demonstrating all of our expectations, and during the show, we had so many staff members comment on how respectful and engaged our students were.

Aboriginal Dance Group

Our Aboriginal students from all dance groups participated in the Acknowledgement of Country, a traditional practice that starts our show and honours Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This was a very special experience for all Aboriginal staff and students involved.

This year, we were thrilled to see eight dedicated Aboriginal girls embrace their culture in the inspiring Star Struck 'Remix’ with a dance called ‘Milkali!’ They showcased their incredible talents and connected deeply with their heritage, creating a memorable experience for everyone involved.

The journey leading up to the program was filled with excitement. These girls committed countless hours to rehearsals and preparation. On the day of the event, the atmosphere was vibrant. The entire group came together to support one another and celebrate their achievements.

A highlight of the experience was the opportunity for the girls to meet and collaborate with choreographer Neville Williams-Boney, which not only enhanced their skills but also boosted their confidence. It was truly inspiring to witness them express themselves through the arts, proudly representing their culture.

The Star Struck 'Remix’ was a beautiful celebration of our students' dedication and passion. We can’t wait to see them continue to shine in future opportunities.

Choir

The Star Struck choir had a huge week! With 1 tech rehearsal, 2 dress rehearsals and 4 performances, the week began early on Wednesday morning and was not done until late on Saturday night. Working all through term 2, the choir learnt 22 songs for Star Struck this year, having them ready to perform without music or words in front of them. It was a massive task! If you were fortunate enough to see the show, you would have noticed the colourful “choralography” – bright, colourful props, mixed with massed movement forming a visual spectacular to accompany the choir’s beautiful sound. The students brought their positive energy to each performance, taking part in 2 shows on Friday and 2 shows on Saturday. I would like to say a colossal thank you to the families involved for your punctuality and support of your children. We all had an amazing time as part of the cast for Star Struck – Remixed 2025. – Mrs Blake

“It has been an incredible experience and I really loved the dances and songs” – Lyla

“I liked all the songs and it was an amazing experience.” – Emelia

“I had a fun time and made new friends.” – Charley

“I liked being able to sing a lot.” - Blake

Junior Dance Group

We had a fantastic time at our first Star Struck. The students were so patient and performed with so much energy! We were lucky to be in the front row for both Living in a Rainbow and Viva La Vida. The students were so confident in dancing in front of such a large audience and were cheering each other on which was wonderful to see.

Senior Dance Group

This year, 16 enthusiastic students participated in the highly anticipated Remixed performance. The students showcased their talent and hard work through two captivating numbers: “Livin’ On A Prayer” and the finale, “Dance With Me.”

The lead-up to the performance was filled with excitement as students dedicated countless hours to rehearsals. The performance itself was nothing short of amazing, with the whole backstage singing along to our song and cheering us on! We are proud to say that all students demonstrated exemplary behaviour throughout the event, reflecting their commitment and passion.

A special highlight of the evening was Evie Wenke, who was selected as a featured dancer. This prestigious role required her to audition for a special part, performing with a much smaller group. Evie danced beautifully to “True Colours,” captivating the audience with her grace and elegance.

Overall, the Remixed performance was a testament to the dedication and talent of our students. We look forward to more opportunities for our dancers to shine in the future!

Thank you to all involved for helping make this another successful year!

NAIDOC at Belmont High School

On Monday, our primary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, along with the BCoS choir, had a wonderful opportunity to attend the NAIDOC assembly at Belmont High School. Students from all schools in the Wakul Karabang network participated, showcasing their talents through performances and digital presentations. We are especially proud of our BCoS choir students, who performed beautifully, and all the students involved in Floraville's digital presentation. It was a fantastic chance to celebrate NAIDOC Week, learn from one another, and see the great work happening in our local schools. To top off the day, students enjoyed some delicious treats and refreshments prepared by the senior food tech class at Belmont High School. It was an amazing experience for everyone involved.

Scott Hingston's -12 Days - 1000kms: Running for Brain Cancer page

Public Speaking

Students have been busy planning and writing their speeches as part of our public speaking program. This valuable learning experience helps students build confidence, develop their oral language skills, and learn to express their ideas clearly.

Students will continue to work on drafting, editing, and refining their speeches. By the end of Week 10, speeches will be sent home so students can begin practising with their families over the holidays. This additional practice will help them feel more confident and prepared when it's time to present.

Students will present their speeches in class during the first three weeks of Term 3. Following the class presentations, two representatives from each class will be selected to present at the school finals, which will be held in Week 4, Tuesday, 12 August.

We encourage all families to support their child by listening to their speech at home and offering positive feedback as they rehearse. We look forward to seeing our students shine as they develop and showcase their public speaking skills!

We are excited to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Taj, who represented our school in the PSSA Hunter Rugby League team that competed in Liverpool last week. PSSA Basketball Knockout Gala: A Day of Sportsmanship and Team Spirit!

On Thursday, Mrs Newton took 17 students to the Newcastle Basketball Stadium for an exciting day of basketball at the PSSA Knockout Gala, a competitive event that showcases the skills and teamwork of students from various schools.

The boys' team faced off against Jewells PS in their opening match. Despite their best efforts and determination, they were defeated by a tough opponent, which meant they were unable to progress in the competitive rounds. However, the day was not over for them! They seized the opportunity to engage in a friendly game against Valentine PS, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship.

Meanwhile, the girls' team started strong against Jewells PS as well. Their impressive defence proved to be their greatest asset, allowing them to secure a well-deserved victory. The next scheduled match against Swansea PS was a forfeit, which allowed both boys' and girls' teams to come together for a friendly match against one another, further fostering team spirit.

The girls continued to shine throughout the tournament, playing against Valentine PS, defeating them 25-6. Then, advancing to the semi-finals after a commanding win against Teralba PS, finishing the game with an impressive score of 0-33. This victory propelled them into the grand final against New Lambton South PS.

In a thrilling final match, the girls held a 4-point lead for the majority of the game and ultimately emerged victorious with a final score of 27-22.

Overall, the day was a fantastic display of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. Congratulations to both our boys' and girls' teams for their efforts and achievements, and a special thank you to Mrs Newton, Mrs Mallon, and Miss Rooney, as well as all parents and carers, for their dedication and support!

This does mean that the Floraville Public School girls team have made it to round 7 of the PSSA knockout competition and the next match will be the Hunter division final. We look forward to this game.

Olympics Unleashed with Alexandra Croak

On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Alexandra Croak to our school as part of the Olympics Unleashed program. Alexandra, a talented athlete who competed in gymnastics at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and diving at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, connected with students in Years 4 to 6. During her visit, students learned about Alexandra's inspiring Olympic journey, including the importance of building resilience, setting goals, and discovering their passions. Alexandra shared firsthand her experiences of overcoming challenges to compete at the highest level in her sport, providing valuable lessons that can help our students strive for excellence in their own pursuits. We were impressed by our students' outstanding listening skills and respect for our guest. Many students had the opportunity to ask Alexandra some thought-provoking questions, further enriching the experience.
