Semester 1 Academic Reports
As we approach the end of Semester 1, our dedicated teachers are working tirelessly to compile comprehensive Academic Reports that reflect your child's learning journey and achievements. We are pleased to advise that the new reporting framework from the Department of Education is being effectively integrated into our school’s practices.
To help families better understand what to expect in their child's report, we have included samples for your review. You will find an Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten) Report, a Primary Report Sample and a Personalised Report Sample. These examples illustrate the key components of the reports, including academic progress, skill development, and areas for improvement. We hope these samples provide valuable insights into how we will be communicating your child's growth and learning experiences.
Emergency Bell System Test
In our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of our school community, we carried out a test of our emergency bell system. This important exercise is part of our safety protocols, allowing us to verify that all systems are in working order should a real emergency arise.
We want to thank both students and staff for their cooperation during this drill, which was communicated beforehand to ensure everyone was prepared. Following the test, we discovered that some classrooms and buildings will require enhancements and/or improvements to ensure the clarity of our emergency alerts. These refinements should help make sure our emergency procedures can be promptly heard and understood by all.

Kindergarten 2026
Our Kindergarten information evening and orientation program for Kindergarten 2026 are fast approaching. Now is the perfect time to enrol at Floraville Public School and prepare for this next adventure.
This important milestone is a significant moment for both you and your child, and we are here to support you throughout the process. We encourage you to complete the enrolment as soon as possible to ensure a smooth transition for our new students.
Please spread the word to friends and family so they can also get ready. Stay tuned for more details about our upcoming events—we can't wait to welcome you and your child to Floraville Public School.

Celebrating Success: Indi’s Impressive Diary Entry
In an inspiring display of creativity and understanding, Indi from 6C has truly excelled in the recent task based on the powerful text Rabbit, Soldier, Angel, Thief. Students were writing a first-person diary entry from the perspective of Sasha, a pivotal character in the story. Indi has gone above and beyond to capture the essence of Sasha's thoughts and emotions.
Indi’s diary entry not only reflects a deep comprehension of the character’s struggles and experiences but also showcases remarkable attention to detail. The authenticity of the presentation is particularly striking; Indi has skilfully aged the paper, incorporating stains, rips, and tears that evoke a sense of history and realism. This effort enhances her storytelling.
Congratulations Indi! Keep shining brightly, Year 6.

Awabakal Word of the Week

Early Stage 1
What are we learning in Kindergarten?
Literacy
We know all the single letter sounds! Over the next two weeks, we will learn about digraphs. A digraph is two letters that work together to make one sound.

Backyard Bugs is our text for Week 9. This book was written by an Indigenous author, Helen Milroy. She is a descendant of the Palyku people of the Pilbara region in Western Australia. Can you find any bugs in your backyard? How do you know if they are insects or spiders?
In Week 10, we are reading Heads and Tails - Insects. This book is a non-fiction book, which means it has true facts about the world around us - in particular, insects. The author and illustrator of this book is John Canty. In the book, we are given clues about an insect and need to guess which one the author is describing. This is something you can do at home too.
Numeracy
Here are some links to number games we have been playing in class.
We are also learning about mass. Students in Kindergarten use the words “heavier” and “lighter” to compare mass. Are small things always light? Are big things always heavy?
We are looking forward to our “100 Days of School” Celebration early next term. More information coming soon!

Stage 1
I am excited to share some wonderful experiences and achievements taking place in our Stage 1 classrooms. During my visit to 1H and 1O, I had the opportunity to listen to students read. Their enthusiasm and progress in reading are commendable and reflect their hard work and dedication.
Meanwhile, 1S has been diving into the wonders of science. The students have been thoroughly enjoying their experiments, particularly exploring how the moon reflects light from the sun using torches. Their curiosity and excitement about the natural world is inspiring.
In our Year 2 classrooms, students in 2M, 2S, and 2N are embracing the challenges of mathematics with great enthusiasm. They have been working hard on their number facts, and it's wonderful to see their confidence grow as they tackle more complex number problems.
It has been great to witness the dedication of all our students firsthand.

Stage 2
3A
In class 3A, students have been diving into the world of imagery, exploring how descriptive language can bring their writing to life. Being inspired by the book Piano fingers, they are learning to use vivid details to paint pictures with words. Hannah and Adrian were proud to share their writing.

2/3K
2/3K were inspired by the story of ‘Piano Fingers’, exploring the vibrant connection between music and art. Everly, Owen, and Max’s artwork successfully captures how the world comes alive with colour and brightness when music fills the air.

4L
If you need help with finding directions, ask the students in 4L. They are learning how to navigate using the cardinal directions of north, south, east, and west. Tommy, Will, Ivy and Azarlia displayed their map that had clear directions and landmarks. Students will continue to explore concepts such as mapping, coordinates, and spatial awareness.

4/5D
4/5D have been hard at work creating informative texts about natural disasters. Students have researched various types of disasters, including earthquakes, floods, and bushfires, to understand their causes and impacts. They are developing their writing skills while learning to present factual information in engaging ways. Matilda, Estelle and Nate had some fantastic examples to share.

3/4O
3/4O has been exploring the features of 2D shapes and 3D objects. Through hands-on activities, they are learning to identify, describe, and classify shapes based on their properties, such as the number of sides and angles.

On Tuesday next week, Year 3 will be off to the Reptile Park for their excursion. A reminder that students need to bring a water bottle and a packed lunch. Students are to wear their regular school uniform, including a hat. The bus is scheduled to leave at 9am.

Stage 2 Assistant Principal
Stage 3
It’s been a busy couple of weeks in Stage 3 with activities such as Star Stuck, High School trials, the PSSA Touch Football gala day, and the Spelling Bee.
6N
In mathematics, 6N students have been developing their understanding of data and statistics through hands-on investigations. Each student measured their own pulse over six seconds and multiplied this by ten to calculate their heart rate. They then collected the heart rate data from nine peers, recording and analysing this information to determine the range of the data set. To display their findings, students created clear and organised column graphs. This engaging activity allowed students to apply mathematical concepts to real-life scenarios while building their skills in data collection, analysis, and representation.

6C
6C have been diving deep into the world of place value and figuring out how to represent large numbers using real-world data. Students have been busy creating some fantastic posters that highlight their understanding of these concepts, and they’ve been applying strategies when solving addition and subtraction problems. It’s been great to see their creativity shine as they connect what they’ve learned to everyday life. We’re also excited to have Miss Mitchell joining us in class! For some of our lessons, Miss Mitchell and Mr Cox have been collaborating to implement explicit teaching strategies, which is helping to further engage our students in both English and mathematics. This aligns perfectly with the Department's focus on the APC&I (Assistant Principal, Curriculum & Instruction), which aims to enhance teaching practices and boost student learning outcomes across schools.

5/6F
I was super excited to see 5/6F having so much fun when I visited their room. Students were actively engaging in mathematics in a fun and physical way by creating three-dimensional objects using their bodies. This hands-on approach has helped them grasp complex concepts while enjoying the learning process! Seeing the students collaborate and use their creativity to form objects was impressive.

5A
As I walked into 5A, I was thrilled to witness our students having a blast while playing a seven-digit number game called Master Mind. It was fantastic to see them working together, using their problem-solving skills, and enjoying the learning process.
In addition to their number games, the students have been diligently working on their understanding of angles. They’ve been drawing, labelling, naming, and measuring angles while using the correct vocabulary to describe and discuss them. This hands-on approach is helping them build a strong foundation in geometry, and it’s exciting to see their confidence grow as they master these concepts.

We look forward to enjoying Year 5’s yummy goods at Monday's Cake Stall. All cakes, slices, and cookies should be brought to 6C on Monday morning. Our House Sport Leaders and SRC representatives will help set up and sell all of the delicious goods at first break, and again at second break if there are any leftovers. Prices will range from 20c to $2. Thanks in advance, Year 5!
Can Year 5 please deliver their delicious treats to Mr Cox's room on Monday morning?

Interest Groups – Movie making
During a fun-filled five weeks, students had the opportunity to engage in rich activities around filmmaking. They began by investigating various film techniques and types of camera shots, and discovering the essential role of storyboards in the creative process. With a rich history lesson on filmmaking, including the era of silent films, students gained a deeper appreciation for the art form.
Working in collaborative groups, they brought their own silent films to life using iMovie on iPads, showcasing their creativity and teamwork. The learning continued as they explored the history of animation and the evolution of moving pictures. Finally, students unleashed their imagination by creating their very own stop-motion animations, bringing static objects to life.

Public Speaking

Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 are participating in public speaking activities and lessons. All students will be supported at school to prepare and deliver a speech on a topic of their choice to their class.
What can you do to help?
You might like to continue talking to your child about what they are going to be speaking about. Please complete the form via School Bytes where you and your child can let us know what your preferences are for speech topics. Please take the time to fill out the form, to assist us in supporting your child at school.
The choice of topic is very important! The aim of your child’s speech will be to entertain and engage an audience. Topics need to be age-appropriate, and something that children feel comfortable, enthusiastic, and confident to speak about.
Public speaking is an important skill for children to learn. Public speaking can help children not only improve their communication skills, but it can also contribute to and help them develop increased self-esteem. There are many additional benefits of learning to speak confidently in public from the youngest possible age – public speaking can help children to learn to think critically and creatively, and learn to be more comfortable when speaking up in a variety of situations they will encounter throughout life.
Further details regarding the dates and times for class presentations will be provided soon.

What an exciting day it was at the PSSA Touch Football Knockout Gala Day held at Swansea this week! We are proud to report that our boys team won their first two games, advancing to the final against Valentine Public School. The match was incredibly intense, ending in a draw at full time. In a thrilling overtime showdown, both teams dropped a player every minute, and with only three players remaining on each side, Valentine managed to sneak in for a try. We could not be more proud of our boys and their tremendous effort throughout the day!
Our girls' team also had a fantastic day, winning their first two matches, facing Caves Beach Public School in the final. The girls displayed an expansive style of play and ran away with a well-deserved victory!
