Principal Message

Welcome back for Term 2

I hope everyone had a restful break and are ready for an exciting term ahead. As we dive back into our learning journey, we're looking forward to embracing new challenges, continuing to celebrate our achievements, and supporting one another as we further grow our great school. Students have returned with enthusiasm and energy, and I look forward to another successful term filled with engaging activities and learning experiences.

New Student Reports

The NSW Department of Education has developed updated report templates for Kindergarten to Year 6. The templates respond to feedback from parents and carers who wanted clearer, more concise information on their child’s progress, while helping schools streamline the reporting process.

From Term 2, we’re introducing updated school reports. Your child’s report will continue to show their progress across all subject areas.

Teacher comments will appear in English, mathematics and the general comment section, in line with department policy. The general comment for Kindergarten will also cover all other key learning areas including, creative arts, human society and its environment (HSIE), personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE), and science and technology.

A new achievement scale and descriptions are included to provide a clearer picture of your child’s progress.

Parent–teacher interviews remain an important way to discuss your child’s progress and achievement in more detail, and these will continue to be held in Terms 1 and 3, and at other times as requested by families.

We welcome your feedback or questions about the new report format which we will continue to share details on in upcoming newsletters, prior to reports being made available to families via School Bytes.

Please find below updates and samples from the DoE.

Celebrating Success: Finn's Learning Journey Over the Break

As the school break finishes, we are thrilled to highlight the impressive efforts of one of our dedicated students, Finn. While many students took a well-deserved break, Finn utilised this time to further his learning through his reptile interests.

Over the break, Finn engaged in a variety of activities that showcased his curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. He delved into the fascinating world of blue-tongue lizards, taking the initiative to research these unique reptiles. Finn’s exploration didn’t stop there; he also applied his knowledge practically by measuring and weighing his lizard, enhancing his understanding of their biology and habitat.

Finn’s dedication to learning outside the classroom is truly commendable. His ability to combine research with hands-on activities not only deepens his knowledge but also fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills. By actively seeking out information and engaging with the subject matter, Finn exemplifies what it means to be a lifelong learner.

Congratulations, Finn! Your passion for learning and exploration is an inspiration to us all. Keep up the fantastic work!

ANZAC Day March

On Friday, 25 April we participated in the Belmont ANZAC March for 2025. I want to say thank you to the students, parents and community members who attended during their holidays to recognise this significant event. We had a wonderful turn out and we were very lucky with the weather, so despite the damp ground, we had sunshine for our march and ceremony. Our leaders proudly led the group with our school banner and all students showed respect by marching proudly. Thank you to the teachers who gave up their time to come and assist during the march. We look forward to our school ANZAC assembly to share this ANZAC spirit with those who weren’t able to make it.

Athletics Carnival

We are thrilled to report that our recent Athletics Carnival was an outstanding success! Despite weather concerns, the rain stayed at bay, allowing our students to participate fully in a day filled with excitement, competition, and sportsmanship.

The turnout was fantastic, with a remarkable number of students eager to showcase their talents and participate in various events. It was great to see so many young athletes giving their best and cheering each other on.

A huge thank you goes out to all the teachers, parents, and community members who played a crucial role in organising and facilitating this event, as well as caring for our students throughout the day. Your hard work and dedication made this event possible, and we could not have done it without your support.

We look forward to more events like this that bring our school community together.

High Jump

The High Jump field event is not run at our carnival due to safety regulations. Children wishing to be selected for High Jump will need to supply a copy of a recent ‘Athletics Club’ certificate showing their Personal Best record to the school email. The students with the best results will qualify for the Zone Carnival if they meet the required height.

Ribbon Ceremony for Athletics Carnival and Cross Country will be held on Monday, 26 May.

PSSA Touch Football

Mrs Lindsay and Mr Cox will be taking names for the PSSA Boy and Girl Touch Football teams. This will be for Year 5 and 6 students and trials may be required to finalise teams.

Hunter Primary Golf Trials

Mr Cox is taking names for The Hunter Primary Golf Trials which will be held on Tuesday, 13 May at Waratah Golf Club. Students should play outside of school and 18 hole players must have an 18 hole official handicap to play.

🌸 Mother’s Day Stall: Get Ready for Mum-Chella! 🌟

We are thrilled to announce our annual Mother’s Day Stall, celebrating all the sparkle and fun that mums bring into our lives! This year’s theme is Mum-Chella, and it’s happening on Friday, 9 May. 🎉

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Shopping Experience:
Students will visit the stall with their classes at allocated times to make their purchases. We have a fabulous selection of gifts available for all the special mums, aunties, grandparents, and role models in our children’s lives. 🎁 Individual gifts range from $2-$10, and we’ll also have chocolates and cards available. 🍫💌

  • What to Bring:
Please send your child with cash on the day and a carry bag to ensure gifts make it home safely. We also encourage students to return during the 2nd break if they wish to purchase additional gifts.

  • Special Arrangements:
We know some students will be off-site for sport in the afternoon. Don’t worry, these students will have the chance to buy additional items before they head off. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

  • Opt-Out Option:
If you prefer your child not to participate in the stall, please ensure they are aware of this on the day.

Volunteers Needed!
Our awesome stalls don’t happen without people power! 💪 Our fundraising committee has been busy during the holidays wrapping all the gifts, and now we need at least 20 volunteers to help at the stall between 8:00am-2:30pm. Volunteers will assist in setting up the stall, selling items to students, and packing away at the end of the day.

Whether you can spare an hour or stay the whole day, we’d love for you to join us! We add a splash of colour, music, and fun for our volunteers, and the kids love seeing mums and dads helping out too. 🎶✨

Sign up to volunteer and be part of the Mum-Chella magic! Let’s make this a memorable event for everyone involved. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm!
